There are plenty of copywriting courses available, but it can be tricky to figure out which one will give you the best results and scale your income the fastest.
Virtually all of them offer video courses on similar topics, and each one promises outstanding results, so how should you choose one?
There isn’t a definitive “best course” for all copywriters as each person’s needs differ depending on their skill level and goals. For example, the best course for someone looking to improve their Twitter copywriting skills differs greatly from an advanced professional copywriter looking to grow their roster of email marketing clients.
However, there is a difference between high-quality and mediocre courses.
So in this post, we’ll give you a criteria you can use to evaluate the quality of any copywriting course.
We’ll also introduce you to our favorite eight copywriting courses, which we categorized by use case so that you can quickly select the best one for your needs.
How to Evaluate A Copywriting Course’s Quality
Every copywriting course will give you videos, to-dos, and worksheets, but that’s just table stakes. So here’s the criteria you can use to evaluate the quality of each copywriting course and gauge its capability to level up your writing skills.
The Creator
I encourage you to only take advice from people that you want to be like in the future. As you’re evaluating online copywriting courses, ask yourself if this person is someone you want to be like in the next 5-10 years.
Have they achieved substantial success as an entrepreneur, or is their only success their course?
Individual Mentorship
Even with great video content, you’ll probably have a few follow-up questions specific to your scenario. Check that they offer individual mentorship to ensure you get answers to these questions.
Peer to Peer Networking
Learning from mentors who have achieved the success you desire is essential, but you can also learn from peers who experience the same challenges you currently face. So check that the course offers peer-to-peer networking opportunities.
Accountability
You will only get value from the course if you put in the work, so check that the course offers accountability groups or habit tracking to ensure you don’t give up.
Third-party perspectives
Learning from one person is great, but learning from multiple experts is better. Do they invite other people to join?
Reviews and review quality
Instead of just looking at the star ratings, what do people say about the course in the reviews? Did they achieve the results they were looking for? Are there any case studies from members? Who is reviewing them? Are people you respect/want to be like reviewing them?
Now that you have a criteria to evaluate each copywriting course, here are a few of our favorites and how they stack up to the above criteria.
The Best Copywriting Courses For 2023
Below are some of the best copywriting courses for 2023 that closely match the criteria outlined above. We also grouped them by use case so that you can identify the different types of copywriters that make
1. Copyblogger Academy – Best For Freelance Writers and Solopreneurs That Want To Scale Income
I (Tim Stoddart) created and run the Copyblogger Academy, a community of creators scaling their income by improving their copywriting skills.
So in addition to freelance copywriters, there are SEO experts, digital product creators, ecommerce store owners, and other solopreneurs inside the community who are leveraging copywriting skills to grow their business (and their income).
Unlike many copywriting courses, the Copyblogger Academy is a full membership community so that you feel truly supported in your journey to financial freedom.
Yes, you’ll have access to all the course content you’ll need to succeed, including the following video courses:
- Content Marketing Mastery
- 10x Copywriting
- Agency Clarity
- How to Create a Second Revenue Stream
- Creative Foundations
- The Copywriting 10
- Content Marketing Bootcamp
- Email Marketing Crash Course
- SEO Masterclass Series
However, the community is the key differentiator that sets The Copyblogger Academy apart from other copywriting courses.
Most people don’t finish the courses they start because they become busy or discouraged as challenges arise. Unfortunately, if you don’t do the work, you won’t see the results – regardless of the video training quality.
The Copyblogger Academy helps you push through challenges, stick with your goals, and achieve them by providing additional support like:
- Direct mentorship from me
- Accountability sessions
- Access to exclusive interviews with top creators (like Steph Smith)
- A network of peers that can relate to your challenges (and serve as brainstorming buddies!)
Let’s discuss each of these in detail.
First, you might have specific questions along your entrepreneurship journey, so I offer direct mentorship. Just ask a question, and I’ll give you feedback via a Loom video. You’ll also probably receive feedback from the community:
I also offer regular group coaching calls via Zoom that you can attend.
In addition, I recognize that it’s tough to stick with any course, so I offer monthly accountability sessions to ensure you’re executing the work assigned in the course. Imagine the progress you’ll make if you do all the work you say you will (and then get to celebrate it with peers!).
I believe it’s important for every creator to learn from multiple successful entrepreneurs, as each person has different insights and experiences that can accelerate your learning rate.
That’s why I regularly interview top creators like Steph Smith, Ethan Brooks, and Chris Ducker, and then give you access to these exclusive recordings:
Arguably the most valuable asset of the Copyblogger Academy is the peer network. Sometimes your mentors can’t relate to your current challenges as the digital landscape changes rapidly, so having access to a peer network who can brainstorm with you is invaluable.
For example, here’s just one member who shared his learnings along the way:
Finally, I mentioned that it’s really important to learn from people who have achieved the success you want to achieve in the next several years.
I encourage you to read my story to learn more about who I am as a person, but as an entrepreneur, my main skill set lies in content writing. I’ve monetized that skill by building the following businesses:
- Founder of Stodzy – A digital marketing agency for addiction/sober living treatment centers
- Founder of Sober Nation – A blog and resource for sober living and addiction.
- CEO of Copyblogger – A blog for freelance writers and business owners looking to improve their writing skills.
- CEO of Copyblogger Academy – A community (digital product) that helps entrepreneurs write effective copy to scale their income.
I also encourage you to check out some of our initial reviews.
If you’re ready to make an investment in yourself and become a successful copywriter, sign up for the Copyblogger Academy today. A few years from today, you’ll thank yourself for making the investment, as it can give you both the education and support you need to take your side hustle or business to the next level.
We also offer a full money-back guarantee so that you don’t have to worry about wasting money on a product that doesn’t deliver – you can make that call for yourself after you’ve seen inside the course.
Take the first step to financial freedom right now, and sign up for the Copyblogger Academy.
2. Power Writing Masterclass – Best For Sharpening General Writing Skills
Shaan Puri created and runs the Power Writing Masterclass, a two-week copywriting course that covers writing cold emails, landing pages, headlines, and crafting a brand story.
It’s a cohort-based course, so you’ll have four group calls with Shaan and some on-demand video lessons.
He also provides actionable to-dos that you’ll complete each day, and he’ll provide feedback for various members’ work during the Zoom sessions.
While you will take the course with others, the community aspect isn’t really a highlight.
Shaan specifies that the course is excellent for:
- The “growth” or “marketing” person at your company
- People that want to build an audience
- CEOs or future executives
The main attraction of the course is Shaan himself. He’s an entrepreneur, investor, and the co-host of the popular business podcast, My First Million.
He also grew The Milk Road, a popular cryptocurrency newsletter, to over 250,000 subscribers in a matter of months and then sold it for a healthy exit. In addition to his newsletter writing skills, he’s also a popular entrepreneur on social media, and one of the course modules specifically covers creating viral content.
The main drawbacks of the course are:
- It’s only two weeks long: Becoming a great professional copywriter takes longer than two weeks, so you won’t have any support after those two weeks.
- There’s a waitlist to join: He only occasionally offers the course, and there currently aren’t any specified future dates.
3. Copy Accelerator – Best For Direct Response Copywriters
Stefan Georgi’s Copy Accelerator course is excellent if you want to learn how to write great sales letters and emails.
In addition to the copywriting training videos, he offers live weekly coaching calls to help people one on one with their copywriting. They also record and save all of the training calls so that you have access to past calls that you couldn’t attend the live call.
The Copy Accelerator also has a private Facebook group where you can connect with other course members and get feedback on your work.
They also host two live mastermind sessions annually where you can network with peers in-person and enjoy spending time with some of the best copywriters in the business.
However, the biggest benefit of the course is the introductions to copywriting clients. Stefan has a large network of high-quality clients and more demand than he can handle, so he’ll regularly provide introductions to his copywriting students. If you show up to lessons, put in effort, and continuously seek feedback on your work, you might get introduced to high-paying clients.
In addition to Stefan Georgi, you’ll also have access to Mario Castelli, who has written for VShred, Modern Millionaires, and other top businesses. In fact, he’s produced several nine-figure sales letters over the past few years.
Luke Mills Iha is also a partner at the Copy Accelerator and has proven himself a talented writer with eight-figure sales letters in the fitness and pet spaces.
The only drawback is that this course is expensive. The full program costs $35,400 per year, and the lite program is $12,500 annually.
Therefore, it isn’t the best program if you’re a beginner copywriter still working to earn your first few wins. However, it is a great investment if you want to take your copywriting career to the next level and need an accelerated program to get there faster.
4. Copywriting Course – Best For General Copywriting
Neville Medhora is a copywriter in the tech space and has written winning emails and sales copy for brands like The Hustle, AppSumo, and others.
He’s been in the copywriting business for years and teamed up with various other copywriters to help provide one-on-one feedback for each group member.
The course is designed for beginners creating their initial copywriting portfolios and entrepreneurs leveling up their basic copywriting skills. Here are just a few of the modules offered in the course:
- Copywriting Course (Main Course)
- Email Copywriting
- Email Autoresponders
- Content Writing
- SEO
- Social Media
- Get Your First Freelance Copywriting Gig
There is also an accountability hub for people that want more help sticking to their goals and a monthly goal tracker to view your progress.
The biggest advantage of the course is the feedback. You can submit any work, from web copy to email autoresponder sequences, and get personalized feedback from the instructors and the other members.
So if you want more hands-on help with your copywriting, this could be a good course.
5. Content OS – Best For Building Content Creation Systems
Justin Welsh is a solopreneur who has built several income streams from his 400,000 plus Twitter followers. In fact, he’s made over $4 million in revenue (with a 94% profit margin) from this following, and his success mainly boils down to his ability to consistently produce high-quality content.
He believes the key to building a large audience is establishing systems and processes to consistently deliver high-quality content.
So while there is a module on copywriting basics, his course mainly focuses on building systems to deliver quality content consistently.
He says this course will provide “a multi-step system for creating a high-quality newsletter and 6-12 pieces of high-performance social media content each week.”
So it’s great for entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and anyone interested in growing a social media following, but it isn’t designed to teach basic copywriting fundamentals or improve long-form content.
The course is broken down into two parts.
Part 1:
- Ideate: Learn how to come up with endless content ideas and curate popular content
- Write: Learn to quickly research and write a high-quality newsletter to own your social audience.
- Promote: He gives you his exact promotion techniques for pre-newsletter and post-newsletter release.
- Multiply: You can see his exact method for repurposing newsletter content into 6-12 social media posts to distribute across Twitter and LinkedIn
Part 2:
- Curate: Find the best performing content structures on Twitter and LinkedIn
- Create: Use his systems for identifying 10-15 content ideas daily
- Templatize: Go behind the scenes to learn how to templatize content
- Distribute: Get the tech stack you need to automate growth
The course itself is also mainly just a self-paced video course. So you won’t have access to group coaching calls, accountability, or a peer network.
It’s also a one-time purchase, so there isn’t a money-back guarantee.
6. Master of AI Copy – Best For Learning About AI Writing Tools
Joanna Wiebe is the founder of Copyhackers and recently released a copywriting masterclass for AI content generation.
It provides in-depth training modules on leveraging AI tools to become a more effective copywriter in less time.
The idea behind the course is that she just teaches you how to become a strategist rather than a writer. She believes that while AI can’t replace a writer’s ideas, it can replace the time-consuming process of articulating those ideas in a manner that resonates with readers.
Inside the course, she provides an overview of the best AI copywriting tools, teaches you how to craft effective writing prompts, and provides an overview of how to edit AI copy faster.
There are also a few bonus lessons with Sam Woods, Lianna Patch, and Shane O’Quinn.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any group coaching or mentorship opportunities, and there also isn’t a community.
This means you’ll have to hold yourself accountable, and you won’t have a group of peers for support.
However, it’s a great resource if you just want a basic introduction to AI copywriting.
7. Content-Led SEO – Best For SEO Copywriting
Brian Dean is the founder of Backlinko, one of the most respected search engine optimization blogs of all time. He recently sold the company to SEMrush and just launched a free course available through SEMrush.
Inside the course, you learn the processes and methods he uses to create and scale his own business.
The course covers everything from how to write content that attracts links to improving time on site with various copywriting hacks.
Each lesson includes a worksheet with actionable to-dos.
Given that it’s a free course, the main drawback is that it’s mainly just a video course. So you won’t have access to coaching sessions, accountability, a peer network, or a forum to ask questions.
Nevertheless, if you can hold yourself accountable and complete the course, there are plenty of interesting nuggets inside.
8. Superstar Business Masterclass – Best For Bloggers
If you’ve ever explored the travel blogging world, you’ve probably encountered Nomadic Matt. He began blogging in 2008, and today, his blog receives over 680,000 monthly visits.
Needless to say, he’s very well qualified to teach blogging, making his course ideal for lifestyle and travel bloggers looking to make an impact in 2023.
Inside his blogging course, you’ll learn the following concepts:
- Develop a Strategy:
- Master The Tech
- Build a Brand
- Become a Good Copywriter
- Rank in Search Engines
- Craft Social Media Content
- Earn Press Coverage
- Grow an Email List
- Monetize Your Audience
As you can see, this course is more than just a copywriting course, as it covers the entire marketing strategy you need to succeed in blogging in 2023.
You’ll also have access to a community of over 1,000 people, which will help you not only brainstorm growth ideas and navigate everyday challenges, but also earn links and guest posts from other authoritative bloggers.
While it doesn’t offer any one-on-one coaching sessions or accountability groups, you can ask other people in the course to join an accountability group with you.
Select The Best Course To Level Up Your Copywriting Skills
The criteria outlined above should also give you the tools you need to evaluate the quality of a copywriting course.
All eight copywriting courses outlined above are excellent, and the key to choosing the best one for you is simply evaluating your specific use case.
For example, if you’re looking to build a LinkedIn audience, Justin Welsh’s course is probably the best fit, while Nomadic Matt’s is probably the best if your goal is to become a travel blogger.
If you’re a solopreneur or copywriter looking to scale your income (either a side hustle or full-time business) by improving your writing skills, consider the Copyblogger Academy.
Take the first step to achieving your goals today by signing up. If you decide that you don’t want to become a better copywriter, we’ll give you a full refund in the first 30 days. So get started now.
